OPERATION HELMET TO RECEIVE PROCEEDS FROM THE AUCTION OF
CHER’S
2003 HUMMER H2
IN LOS ANGELES ON OCTOBER 3-4, 2006

Credit: Michael Lavine

Washington DC – Aug 9, 2006 - On October 3-4, 2006, Sotheby’s with Julien’s Auctions is honored to offer Property from the Collection of Cher, the multi-award-winning international star, in a two-day auction at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles, California. More than 700 lots of paintings, furniture and decorative works of art will be included from Cher’s remarkable Italian Renaissance-style residence in Malibu, California, as well as jewelry, memorabilia and stunning stage-worn costumes from television, live concerts and special personal appearances. The sale is expected to bring in excess of $1 million, and a portion of the proceeds from the sale will benefit The Cher Charitable Foundation, which aids such organizations as The Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund, Operation Helmet and The Children's Craniofacial Association.

The October sale will also feature Cher’s 2003 H2 Hummer, carrying an estimate of $30/40,000, with the proceeds going to benefit Operation Helmet (www.operation-helmet.org).

About Operation Helmet

Operation Helmet is a nonpartisan, 501(c)3 charitable grassroots effort that provides helmet upgrade kits free of charge to U.S. troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. Operation Helmet depends on tax-deductible donations and is a team member of AmericaSupportsYou.mil. For $70-$100, depending on the manufacturer, added safety and comfort can be provided for a trooper. But donations of any amount are welcome. The donation can be designated for a specific branch of the military, a particular unit or an individual trooper. 99% of donations go toward helmet kits. There are no salaries or payroll costs deducted and the Operation’s books are available for inspection at the home office. To date, Operation Helmet has sent upgrade kits to over 21,000 troops.
